In May 2009, the village of Apecchio completed initial testing of LED street lights to assess energy efficiency and lighting quality with the goal of complying with new light pollution regulations. Officials replaced fluorescent lamps in parking area lights and street lights with highly efficient LITEK PROLED fixtures.
The new fixtures are providing a 65-percent energy savings compared with the fluorescent lamps that were replaced. Based on this test, Apecchio officials are moving forward with LED lighting for parking areas and along village streets.
“We are glad to be part of Apecchio’s LED lighting projects and are committed to promoting the benefits of LED technology in street lighting, as well as other functional indoor and outdoor applications,” said Fabio Facchini, LITEK general manager.

"The City spends substantial amounts of money every year replacing and maintaining lighting. What the LED City initiative means is not necessarily that we will be spending more, but spending more wisely on emerging technology that will save a lot in the long run... The whole point of declaring this public/private initiative is to develop a long-term plan to save money and take advantage of LED technology to spend smartly. The goal is to get the best lighting value for the citizens of Raleigh and serve as a model for other cities seeking to do the same."
Dan Howe,
Deputy City Manager, City of Raleigh, NC
